केंद्र सरकार ने संविधान में संशोधन कर सामान्य वर्ग के आर्थिक रूप से कमजोर लोगों के लिए 10 फीसदी आरक्षण का प्रावधान किया था. इसे सुप्रीम कोर्ट में चुनौती दी गई थी. सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने बड़ा फैसला सुनाते हुए EWS आरक्षण को बरकरार रखा है. 5 जजों की बेंच में 3 जजों ने सामान्य वर्ग के आर्थिक रूप से कमजोर लोगों को 10 फीसदी आरक्षण के प्रावधान को सही माना.
